Course information

This course has been created to support students in developing the employability skills to work in the retail and customer service industries.

Students hoping to gain employment in jobs such as shop assistants, shelf stackers, warehouse operatives, cafe and restaurant waiting on staff and any customer facing roles, will develop the skills they need on this course. We have expanded our service industry offer across college as this is a very successful area of employment for our learners with previous students gaining employment in local shops and cafes.

The course includes units such as Health and safety in practical environments, Serving food and drink, Handling stock, Looking after customers in hospitality and retail, Teamwork and much more.

As part of the 16-19 study programme, all learners will undertake external work placements. This year students are working at Quality Save and Handley’s Newsagents undertaking various retail tasks such as shelf stacking, serving customers, stock rotation and control. They also work at The Hart Café & Bar serving food & drink to customers and clearing tables.
