Petty Pool launches ‘Where Possible Happens’ to champion ambition and opportunity for young people with SEND

Petty Pool has launched Where Possible Happens, a new brand and website reflecting its belief that young people with SEND should be supported to build on their strengths and aspirations and access meaningful opportunities for their futures.

The organisation wants to encourage a more ambitious conversation about what is possible for young people with SEND – with greater focus on opportunity, preparation for adulthood, independence and employment.

The launch comes as learners return for the new academic year and at a significant point in Petty Pool’s development, as the charity continues to grow its reach and invest in new opportunities for young people with SEND.

Founded in 1981 with around six young people learning practical skills including woodworking, Petty Pool has grown significantly over its 45-year history. Today, it supports thousands of young people and adults with SEND and neurodivergence, creating opportunities to learn, develop skills, build confidence and independence, move towards employment and participate in community life.

Sally Garratt, Chief Executive of Petty Pool, said: “Too often, conversations about young people with SEND focus on what they cannot do rather than what they can.

“At Petty Pool, we see what becomes possible when young people are given the right opportunities – whether that’s growing in confidence, developing greater independence, gaining skills, experiencing the world of work or taking steps towards employment.

“Where Possible Happens reflects our belief in recognising people’s strengths and aspirations, while encouraging employers, educators, policymakers and communities to think differently about the opportunities we create for young people with SEND.”

Petty Pool’s work connects education with real-world experiences, with a strong focus on preparation for adulthood, meaningful progression and opportunities to develop the skills, confidence and independence people need for their futures.

Looking ahead, Petty Pool’s £13 million Project Learn Hive development will future-proof its Sandiway site and help the charity respond to growing demand for specialist SEND provision.

The new pettypool.org.uk website brings Petty Pool’s work together in one place, making it easier for learners, families, partners and the wider community to access information,

support and opportunities, while sharing the experiences and achievements of the people it supports.

Petty Pool will continue that conversation at its Where Possible Happens conference at Chester Racecourse on 15 October, bringing together employers, educators, local authorities and community partners to explore practical responses to the growing number of young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET).
