In memory of Brian Philips

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Phillips MBE one of Petty Pool’s founding trustees. Brian died on 13 January at St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford, with his devoted wife Lorraine and daughters Gabrielle and Deborah at his side.

Brian’s contribution to the local community was exceptional. As one of the founding trustees of the Mid Cheshire Sheltered Workshop – the organisation that would later become Petty Pool – he played a pivotal role in its creation and long-term stability.

It was Brian who secured the land from ICI on which the college now stands, laying the foundations for what Petty Pool would become. True to his modest nature, few ever knew the full extent of his dedication or the personal sacrifices he made across 45 years of unwavering service as a trustee.

It is no exaggeration to say that the charity would not have survived without Brian’s determination and financial support. His lifetime of commitment was recognised in the 2023 New Year Honours, when he was awarded an MBE for Services to Children and Young People.

Beyond his charitable work, Brian was a familiar and respected figure throughout Northwich. A prominent businessman for half a century, he owned and operated both the King Street Spar garage and petrol station and the Hyundai dealership on Hargreaves Road.

To many, he will be remembered for his hallmark qualities – his remarkable generosity, his kindness, and his deep sense of decency. These were the traits that defined him, and they touched the lives of countless people over the years.

Brian leaves behind a legacy that will endure within Petty Pool and across the wider community he served with such humility. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
