About Petty Pool

Petty Pool Trust is a specialist charity dedicated to supporting young people with learning disabilities and difficulties. We provide high-quality education, training, and outdoor learning experiences that empower individuals to develop skills, confidence, and independence.

Summary
The Maintenance Officer will play a key role in the day-to-day delivery of the repairs and maintenance service. The main purpose of the role is to ensure the facilities and grounds are well presented for our staff and students, are always well presented, and always maintained and safe. The Maintenance Officer will work with the Estate and Facilities Manager to ensure the compliance of Health and safety and adhering to policies

Responsibilities:
Caretaking:
Ensure roads and paths are cleared of snow and ice and salted as necessary
Clean landscaped areas and grounds e.g., drains, gutters for the purpose of preventing floods
Maintain and clear gutters and drains
Reactive maintenance of buildings where required, including light bulbs, replacing toilet seats, leaks from sinks and taps, unblocking toilets
Assist with work required as part of the annual decoration schedule, to include fitting additional mortice locks, hanging white and notice boards
Liaise with contractors – sourcing appropriate contractors to carry out agreed work which reflects value for money
Meeting and escorting external contractors on site
Identifying projects that can be undertaken by volunteer groups, provisioning materials and equipment, supervising and assisting the work undertaken
To carry out daily, weekly, and monthly checks of the emergency/ evacuation systems in place at the centre as directed (first aid kits, fire extinguishers / fire blanket checks, escape routes etc)
Reactive maintenance of buildings where required, including repairs to building facades, and potholes on the driveway and car park
Repairs to interior plaster, joinery, changing locks, and external fence repairs

Equipment Support:
Complete all daily, weekly, and monthly equipment checks, completing all necessary records, to include:
Lift safety check, Fire alarm test, emergency lighting, automatic door closure and exit routes checks
Carry out daily, weekly, monthly, annual, and routine checks on company vehicles including servicing, MOT and tax
To maintain company vehicles including washing vacuuming and cleaning interior
Check company vehicles tyre pressure and weekly checks for wear and tear damage

Health and Safety responsibilities:
Comply with and promote Petty Pool’s Health and Safety and Safeguarding and Operational Policies and Procedures and maintain a safe environment for students, staff and visitors ensuring that reasonable care is taken at all times for the health, safety and welfare of yourself and other persons
To clean, maintain and operate machinery in a safe and effective manner in accordance with the operators’ manuals with due regard to Health and Safety instructions and Risk Assessment
To operate weekly water flushing of taps, in sinks, showers and baths around the College and site, in accordance with our legionella policy
Checking window opening restrictions and operation of locks on all first-floor windows
To ensure all tasks are carried out safely and effectively with due regard to Health and Safety

General:
Working with and supervising other Maintenance Officer team members
Emptying external bins
Office relocations
Taking on small projects identify by SMT
Promote effective working relationships within the team through good communication processes with all groups of staff and managers across The Trust
Ensure adherence to all centre Policies and Procedures
To be familiar with relevant policies and procedures and to take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the children and young people

Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Experienced in wide range of DIY/Maintenance

Desirable
Hold or be working towards a Basic First Aid Certificate
Experience of working within robust Health and Safety Management System
Experience of working within Further Education

Knowledge and Skills
Essential
Excellent interpersonal skills and effective member of the team
Good organisational skills
Full clean Driving Licence (Car)

Desirable
A willingness to develop skills in particular areas of disability
Knowledge of Inclusion, Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding policy
