A Recipe for Confidence:
All About Greens Visits Petty Pool
At Petty Pool, we take pride in sharing a truly inspiring partnership with All About Greens, a project that brought plant-based cooking to life for our learners in an inclusive, hands-on, and empowering way.
All About Greens is a plant-based social enterprise in Chester, passionate about making nutritious, sustainable food accessible to everyone. Their mission is simple yet powerful: to demonstrate that delicious, healthy meals can be prepared on a budget, support wellbeing, and be kind to the planet.
Through culturally diverse and practical cooking sessions, they help individuals build confidence in the kitchen, and we were delighted to welcome them into Petty Pool College.
As part of our ongoing commitment to real-life, skills-based learning, we invited All About Greens into our college to deliver a series of engaging plant-based cooking workshops. Each learner was given their own workstation to prepare dishes from scratch, using ingredients they may have never worked with before.
It was an opportunity not only to try something new but also to shine a light on the amazing progress they have made throughout their course. The learners proudly showcased the skills they’ve been building over the past two years, from following recipes to mastering kitchen techniques, while exploring flavours and ingredients that they were not familiar with.
The sessions were a huge success, with every learner getting stuck in. It was brilliant to see such high engagement, particularly from learners who sometimes struggle in group settings and with public speaking. The joy on their faces as they prepared their meals, tried new foods, and saw how affordable cooking from scratch could be was unforgettable.
“(…) I felt really proud watching them show off what they’ve learned.”
As our team, at Petty Pool College, shared: “It was great to see students outside of their comfort zone, and I felt really proud watching them show off what they’ve learned. They were buzzing to try new things, and the atmosphere in the room was amazing.”
For All About Greens, the collaboration was just special. Their workshops guided learners through meals like “homestyle smokey Boston beans and sausage” and “spicy tomato lentil dahl”, in a warm and inclusive environment that echoed their values.
One of the highlights was watching the group of learners plate up their own creations and sit and share their meal together alongside the college support team. “Their excitement, independence and teamwork truly captured the spirit of what we’re about. ” said Lisa Hinze from All About Greens. “Supporting the learners at Petty Pool wasn’t just about teaching cooking , it was about creating a space where everyone felt capable, creative and celebrated”.
“Their excitement, independence and teamwork truly captured the spirit of what we’re about. ”
Our time together has reaffirmed the power of inclusive food education. At Petty Pool, we are so proud of what our learners achieved, and deeply grateful to the team at All About Greens for their energy, values, and creativity.
From their side, All About Greens shared how meaningful it was to work alongside our staff and students: “We are incredibly proud of what the learners achieved and deeply grateful to the staff for their collaboration and enthusiasm. We hope to continue working with Petty Pool and similar organisations, spreading our message that plant-based cooking is not only for everyone — it can be a life-changing, joyful experience.”
We can’t wait to see what we cook up together next!
