Safeguarding at Petty Pool

At Petty Pool, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

We are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where learners feel valued, listened to, and protected.

Using a trauma-informed approach, we help learners feel confident to speak up if they are worried about themselves or someone else, knowing they will be taken seriously and supported.

Safeguarding is embedded throughout college life, helping learners understand how to stay safe:

  • In college
  • Online
  • At home
  • At work
  • In the community

We support learners to understand their rights, recognise risks, build healthy relationships, and know where to get help.

Our Designated Safeguarding Leads

Our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) are specially trained to support learners and respond to safeguarding concerns.

All DSLs are trained to Level 3 in Child Protection and Safeguarding and regularly complete additional training in areas including:

  • Prevent and Radicalisation
  • Online Safety
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Exploitation
  • Harmful Sexual Behaviour
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing

Our safeguarding team works closely with learners, families, staff, and external agencies to ensure learners receive the right support when it is needed.

Safeguarding Education

Learners regularly take part in activities and awareness sessions covering topics such as:

  • Online Safety
  • Healthy Relationships
  • Prevent and Radicalisation
  • Personal Safety
  • Mental Wellbeing
  • British Values

These sessions help learners build the confidence and knowledge needed to stay safe and make informed choices.
