Work experience is an important part of life at Petty Pool.
It gives learners the opportunity to develop workplace skills, build confidence, and explore future career options in real working environments.
Work experience is embedded throughout our curriculum, helping learners gradually develop the knowledge, behaviours, and practical skills needed for adulthood and employment.
Every placement is tailored to individual interests, vocational pathways, aspirations, and EHCP outcomes.
How Work Experience Works
Our work experience programme is designed to help learners progress at a pace that works for them.
Year 1: Internal Work Experience
Learners begin by developing their employability skills within college-based work environments.
These experiences help learners build confidence, workplace awareness, communication skills, and independence.
Years 2 & 3: External Work Experience
As learners develop their skills and confidence, they can access placements with local employers and community organisations.
These placements are carefully matched to each learner’s goals and interests, helping them gain valuable industry experience and prepare for future opportunities.
Supported Every Step of the Way
Learners are supported throughout their placements by our dedicated Learner Mentors.
Our team works closely with both learners and employers to ensure placements are positive, meaningful, and successful.
Support may include:
- Preparing for the workplace
- Developing confidence and communication skills
- Travel and independence support
- Regular workplace visits
- Ongoing guidance and encouragement
