Read about “Snowy” – a valued student who left a legacy to Petty Pool College in his will.

Snowy’s story

Mark was called “Snowy” due to his white blonde hair as a child, and he came to Petty Pool when he was 20. At first he studied woodwork through our workshop, making bird tables and garden benches, delivering them in the local area. He moved into a house owned by The Petty Pool Trust where he was supported to live independently with his partner in crime and best friend, Russell.

From Petty Pool, Snowy went on to Reaseheath to study Animal Care and Horticulture. He passed his course and gained employment at Nunsmere where he worked in landscaping and gardening.

With his friends, Russell and Robert, he enjoyed holidays in Cornwall, which involved a lot of cream teas, beer and sunbathing on the beach.

Snowy also had some fab times in his house in Llandudno….which he called “Llanvegas”, and which we think may have been his favourite place ever….even when a seagull stole his cheese and pickle butty on the beach! Every time he set off home, Snowy would always say “Bye Llandudno, see you next time”.

Here are a few things you might not know about our friend Snowy…..

  • He was a world record-breaking tree hugger and had the certificate to prove it
  • He had a cat called Percy who drank all of his milk
  • Snowy wrote a diary every single day and didn’t let anyone interrupt that routine
  • He loved his food, cooking and enjoying meals out …and even in hospital he sent thank you notes to the kitchen for the lovely food

All the staff and students want to say a huge thank you to Mark for thinking about Petty Pool in his will.  His legacy will be used to ensure we continue to support young people to achieve and enjoy life as much as he did. We will also continue with Snowy’s unique philosophy of life:

  • Always greet people with a cheesy smile and a cheeky wink
  • Always offer visitors a drink
  • Always try to be helpful
  • Always work hard and enjoy life!
