Josh was studying towards one of his catering units, and identified by his tutor as being an ideal candidate for a work placement. Our Work Based Learning Team secured a work experience position for him with Whitegate Station Café, an opportunity Josh embraced with great enthusiasm.
With support from Petty Pool’s Job Coach team, Josh was coached in some core skills, such as reading and recording cooking temperatures, however he quickly proved himself more than capable of learning the rest on the job. Essential skills included food preparation and hygiene, and customer service.
Josh has since successfully moved on to a half day a week placement at The Milk Bar café, which is closer to his home and enables him to walk to work – also equipping him with essential independent travel skills.
Here’s what Josh said about his work placement:
“It’s fantastic, I love it here. I do lots of jobs every Wednesday and I learn lots of different things. I’d like to work here when I leave college because it’s really great and I like my bosses. They said I’m one of the best workers they’ve got!”
