Hospitality & Catering

In this course we learn the various skills we need to work in a catering environment.

We do lots of practical work based activities in this course. During the year we learn about different cooking techniques in our professional kitchen. We learn about the health and safety rules we must stick to when we work in the kitchen and the routines we need to follow to prepare food safely.

We are responsible for the running of the ‘Student Snack Bar’ where we serve hot snacks and meals to staff and students. We learn how to serve customers politely, use the till and buy new stock.

We also run ‘Restaurant Days’ where we make a menu and invite people to book tables. One event we planned was a ‘Valentines Dinner’ where staff and students could book tables for a meal. We develop lots of skills doing this, such as laying the tables, waiting on and taking customers’ orders.
